THE BIG MOVE IS UPON ME!

Been thinking about it. Been planning it. Now it's here. Starting tonight and through next week I will be busily engaged in moving from Ohio to Northern Virginia. Consequently blogging, if it happens at all, will be really, really light!

A special thanks to friend Paul (In My Taxi blog) who was able to help me with planning the cost of the gas for the truck that will be loaded with my belongings next Thursday morning and driven to my new home. Paul, you are a really good person to help me that way AND I'm glad YOU did the math instead of me! Likely to be far more accurate.

I'll be checking in. The best thing is that when I am somewhat settled in my (temporary) digs, I'll have the ability to start back blogging at both this site and Lifelike Pundits.

THE SO-CALLED LEADERSHIP IN THE U.S. CONGRESS
and why it’s frightening me and should be frightening you!

For the first time in my lifetime, the U.S. Congress is starting to make this nation look like a banana republic, under the thumb of a mostly incompetent, frequently insane, megalomaniac dictatorship.

Nancy Pelosi declared herself “the most powerful woman in the world” when she became House Speaker this past January. Somehow, I have a feeling that at least one of the ACTUAL heads of state would disagree with her. For example, all of the following are truly HEADS OF STATE and were elected by their ENTIRE nation, not just one leftwing district of San Francisco:

President Borjana Kristo, Federation of Bosnia (Bosnia-Hercegovina)
President of the Confederation Micheline Calmy-Rey, Switzerland
Minister-President Emily de Jongh-Elhage, Nederlandse Antillen (Self-governing Part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands)
Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller, Jamaica
Executive President Michelle Bachelet Jeria, Chile
Executive President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Liberia
President of the Sameting/Sámediggi Aili Keskitalo in Norway
Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, Germany

Both Speaker Pelosi and Senator Harry Reid can only be described as running amok. They promised the most ethical Congress on record and immediately began planning copious pork barrel projects (neatly tucked away whenever possible in bills purportedly providing funding to our troops in harm’s way and then squealing like stuck pigs when the President – rightly – vetoed their dishonest and seditious legislation).

The latest ploy is Speaker Pelosi’s decision to revoke minority rights:

After losing a string of embarrassing votes on the House floor because of procedural maneuvering, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has decided to change the current House Rules to completely shut down the floor to the minority.

This happened today after the Democrats changed a rule to prevent Republicans from offering a motion to recommit on the PAYGO provisions of their legislation. The bottom line: Democrats don’t want their members to have to vote on the tax increases that they are trying to slide into bills, and Republican motions-to-commit put them in the awkward position of having to actually cast those votes and go on the record.

So the Democrats want to do what Democrats do – they just don’t want to be caught doing it? How straightforward on their parts.

I have said before that Nancy Pelosi is an incompetent buffoon and I’m not backing down from that – I’m just adding the word dangerous to that description. The rules of the House are there to protect the Minority from the tyranny of the Majority. But Nancy Pelosi is in charge now, and the Rules are being eliminated. You do the math

Here’s a clue, Mrs. Pelosi: Your district in San Francisco, from which YOU were elected, is probably roughly the size and population of the district from which MY Representative Pat Tiberi was elected. Which means, you aren’t that damned special, lady! You are one among many and you need to throttle back on your insane ego-trips and dictatorial behaviors. Running roughshod over the other party is NOT the road to bipartisanship, you wretched crone. Nor is it behavior calculated to lead to a continued Democratic Party majority after the 2008 election. Nor will it help to elevate any Democrat to the White House.

Maybe I shouldn't warn you though. If you keep on going as you are now, you and your pals will be the catalyst for the largest repudiation by the voters of a majority party in the history of American politics. Assuming that our Republic can survive the next 18 months!

HAVING PROBLEMS AT THE PUMP?

According to today’s Fox News Online, the price of a gallon of gas has jumped nearly 40% since the Democrats became the majority in Congress and how's that working out for you?

UPDATE: Friend and fellow blogger Paul opined that he's pretty depressed by this cost of fuel - he drives a CAB! Here's what he commented:

The price of a gallon of gas has jumped nearly 80% since its low of $1.879 a gallon several months ago, to $3.299 two days ago. It did drop a dime overnight.

I use an average of 80 gallons a week. You do the math on how much it costs me. I can't, it's too depressing.

For those who are suffering real hardships from this elevated cost of gasoline, does anyone have any suggestions of ways to save something? We do need to remember that a good portion of the outrageous cost of gasoline stems from the egregious taxes imposed per gallon. In Ohio that comes in at well over $1 per gallon. Maybe we should be holding our rapacious pols' feet to the fire? Works for me.
RON PAUL - BUH BYE!

By any objective measure, Ron Paul "jumped the shark" during the debate last night. He is a completely unredeemable moonbat and seems to be PROUD of it.

In addition, John McCain looked worn out and old and seemed to just ride the same old hobby horses. If John McCain does for national defense or border security what he has done for campaign finance reform, in the immortal words of Tony Soprano "fuhgedaboutit"! The ship has sailed on your presidential ambitions, Senator McCain. Your service to our nation has been immense and we are grateful. But enough already! You are no longer a viable candidate.

I am a Roman Catholic and thus, without apologies, completely anti-abortion. That being said, I find myself thinking that (assuming a more attractive alternative doesn't present itself - Fred Thompson, for example), for reasons of national defense and security, Republicans might need to bite the bullet and go with someone who is not their perfect dream of conservatism.

Here's the deal all you conservatives out there. I'm slightly to the right of Attila the Hun and, in a perfect world, Rudy or Mitt are not my dream candidates. On the other hand, is Duncan Hunter electable? Is Tom Tancredo? So electability is the key here and I'm not willing to bite off my nation's safety to spite my face. We are already seeing how well that worked out in the 2006 election, aren't we!

Fred Thompson, Michael Moore Go Head to Head, Sort of
Tuesday , May 15, 2007

WASHINGTON —

TV star and former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson declined Tuesday to meet with Michael Moore, suggesting the filmmaker instead might want to check himself into a mental hospital after Moore challenged Thompson to a one-on-one debate on health care.

The response follows a letter by Moore in which he scolded the Law & Order actor. Noting Thompson's fondness for Cuban cigars, Moore wrote that Thompson is in no position to criticize Moore for traveling to Cuba with several ailing Sept. 11 emergency responders to make the argument that Cuba's health care system is superior to the United States'.

First of all, Moore, you ignorant moron, Cuban cigars are no longer illegal in this country. Secondly, if the Cuban health care system is so FABULOUS, why is it that Fidel Castro, when his health was at grave risk, sent for a Spanish physician and health care team at great speed?

The reality is, Moore, that you've overstayed your welcome on the world stage given your dearth of real talent and the demonstrably fraudulent quality of your "work". I almost wish former Senator Thompson would take you up on your debate challenge. He'd cream your fat ass and show the world what a ridiculous waste of human skin you really are!

Is it just me, or is Fred Thompson starting to grow on you?

R.I.P. REV. JERRY FALWELL

The Rev. Jerry Falwell died today. He apparently just sat down at his desk and that was it!

Rev. Falwell was a controversial and highly divisive figure. I seldom agreed with him about anything. However much I might have decried many of the things he said, I never doubted his sincerity. He tried to make a contribution and he loved this country. I hope the same will be said of me when it's my turn to go.

About the rest, it's not for us to judge his life and/or his intentions. Reverend Falwell is now in the hands of Another, Greater Judge.

My sympathies to his family.
JUST GO READ IT!

GM Roper pens, mightily and with great insight, a brilliant essay entitled: A Spark, An Ember, A Tiny Flame, A Conflagration which I recommend highly to anyone who wishes to observe Memorial Day in the right frame of mind.
WILL THEY OR WON'T THEY?

Both Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and Senator Barack Hussein Obama will need to stand up and be counted tomorrow. Aides to the two 2008 presidential hopefuls declined comment on the issue Monday night, two days before a scheduled vote on Sen. Russ Feingold's proposal to cut off funding for nearly all military operations in Iraq after next March 31. As quoted in today's New York Post, Senator Russ Feingold (D-Wussconsin) said:

"The American people deserve to have the Senate go on record about whether or not it wants to end our misguided mission in Iraq and safely redeploy our brave troops."

Anyone want to make book on whether or not they even have the cojones to show up?

HEAD ON OVER TO VICTORY CAUCUS

And find out how to sign the petition SUPPORTING our President's veto!
SHAMELESS PANDERING TO THE NUTROOTS

On Saturday in Kansas City, Barack Obama said the following:
"The day that this president steps down, the entire world will breath a sigh of relief," [Obama] said attacking President Bush.”
Well, Senator Obama, we know that AL QAEDA and the TALIBAN will breathe a sigh of relief. I very much doubt that the Iraqui people will do so! Unlike the finger-in-the-air-poll-worshiping-cynical poseurs running for President from the Democratic Party (and some Republicans as well), our President does what he believes is right, regardless of his popularity ratings.

Completely cynical pandering. Whatever it takes to WIN POWER and never mind if you’re selling your nation down the river, right Senator?

Creep.
WHY PARIS HILTON SHOULD GO TO JAIL FOR 45 FULL DAYS

This, to me, is a much larger issue than the jail time sentence meted out to notorious trollop and party girl Paris Hilton.

Paris Hilton pleaded “no contest” to drunk driving. She was given probation, required to attend an alcohol education program and her license to drive a vehicle was suspended. She acknowledged this sentence IN WRITING and signed her name to the document. What about this is difficult to understand? Even for her?

Not once, but TWICE, she was pulled over for driving without a license. The first time they let it slide, the second time her skinny ass was hauled into court. In addition to the fact that she pleaded ignorance (which under the law is no excuse) of the fact that her license to drive a car was suspended (and then tried to blame it on her PUBLICIST for heaven’s sakes), when she was pulled over the second time, she was driving with her vehicle lights off. What? Did the moron think they wouldn’t notice her? Granted this is L.A., but even THERE a Bentley tends to attract attention. Further, she had NOT (as required by the terms of her probation) entered and completed the alcohol education program, nor has she done so at this writing.

Now she has started an internet campaign for leniency (and is asking her fans to “sihn” the petition), while her family is campaigning for a pardon from Governor Terminator! Advice to Ah-nold: Don't do it!

What exactly does this 26-year old female (who SHOULD be old enough to know better but clearly isn’t) contribute to society other than conspicuous consumption? Yet little girls try to emulate her. And THAT is why she should be forced to put on her “big girl” panties (or any panties at all) and do the time, because most assuredly she DID do the crimes.

It’s time this heedless bunch of indulged babies understands that there are consequences to their actions. Further, driving under the influence is NEVER okay and that is also a message that can and should be sent by this incident.

I have seen drug and alcohol abuse up close and personal in my own life. I am the adult child of alcoholic parents and someone I deeply loved died of a massive drug overdose. It is a debilitating and family-destroying disease that claims lives daily. Far too often, the lives that are taken because of alcohol abuse are INNOCENT lives. There are statistics out there that say that for every ONE TIME that someone is nailed for driving impaired, they have done it 100 times or more!

So yes, send the worthless twit to jail – and if she keeps on whining about her well-deserved punishment, make her serve the full 45 days, instead of giving her half off for good behavior.

SPEAKING OF THE SELF-DELUDED, THIS JUST IN!

Mayor "Nanny" Bloomberg of New York has apparently decided that if a former mayor of New York can run for president, he probably should do so as well. And to prove his [lack of] qualifications we have this:
May 11, 2007, 12:21PM
Bloomberg outlines national energy plan in Houston
By SARA KUGLER
Associated Press

NEW YORK — Despite constant denials that he is running for president, Mayor Michael Bloomberg laid out a national energy plan today in a speech in Houston and took veiled jabs at his potential opponents, accusing them of "politics as usual."

The Republican billionaire outlined an energy plan that proposes creating profit motives for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, building new wind farms and nuclear plants, phasing out the incandescent light bulb and setting early deadlines to accomplish these goals.
Of course, Mayor Bloomberg's extensive scientific background qualifies him to decide on whether or not "global warming" is real or a scam, in much the same way that Al Gore's extensive scientific background qualifies him to judge. In other words, they are both nincompoops and don't know what they're talking about. Can you say "scam", folks?
WHO IS HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON
WHY DOES SHE THINK SHE IS QUALIFIED FOR THE PRESIDENCY?

It is true, in theory, that any native born American citizen, having reached the appropriate age, may run for the Presidency, the reality in practice is that very few can or do – and that’s a good thing. We tend to require that those who run for and achieve the Presidency are QUALIFIED for that very tough job. Sometimes we are disappointed (James Earl Carter, Jr. comes to mind), but mostly we are not.

The subject here is Hillary Rodham Clinton, who is the junior Senator from the State of New York, after occupying the White House as First Lady for 8 tumultuous years. This is her first ELECTED office but it has been clear for many years that she is salivating over the possibility of being elected the first woman President.

Senator Clinton was born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 26, 1947. She is the daughter of Dorothy Rodham and the late Hugh Rodham. Her father was a small businessman and her mother a homemaker. She is a graduate of Wellesley College and Yale Law School. So while her father may have been a “small businessman”, he clearly made a pretty good living to afford that kind of high-end education for his daughter.

Hillary Rodham met William Jefferson Clinton at Yale Law School and they were married in 1975. Their daughter Chelsea was born in 1980.

When William Jefferson Clinton was campaigning for the presidency, he frequently touted the “two for the price of one” scenario. So let’s examine the fruits of that scenario.

First, there was the Health Care Commission which cost an enormous amount of taxpayer dollars and produced the most unworkable, socialism-based, proposal that has ever been rejected by the U.S. Congress – and at warp speed, I might add.

There is also the matter of the Travel Office imbroglio, when under the direction of Hillary Clinton and her sidekick, Vince Foster (who later died a "suicide"), the entire staff of the White House Travel Office was fired on fallacious charges (the charges were later proven entirely false by an independent counsel) so that Mrs. Clinton could replace the staff with unvetted, incompetent political cronies.

The Clintons evidenced deep disdain for the military during their time in the White House. In addition, both President and Mrs. Clinton treated their Secret Service protection detail like errand boys, rather than highly trained professionals. When it came to political appointees, the Clintons (particularly Mrs. Clinton) refused to insist on proper clearances for their appointees and reacted with impatience and disdain when called to task for this completely improper attitude toward the conduct of the nation’s business.

During the Whitewater investigation, missing Rose Law Firm documents were discovered in a drawer in the White House. Now I have said for years that this is the one transgression of Mrs. Clinton’s for which I will not condemn her. I’ve worked for attorneys for too many years and know full well how utterly hopeless they are with any piece of paper!

When her husband’s perjury in front of a Grand Jury led to the institution of impeachment hearings, Mrs. Clinton shifted the blame to her favorite culprit – the “vast right wing conspiracy” rather than placing the blame for her husband’s predicament squarely where it belonged – on her husband’s randy disregard for morality or propriety which led him to commit a felony – lying to a Grand Jury.

Mrs. Clinton ran for the Senate while she was still First Lady and when the Clintons finally left the White House, they departed with White House furnishings that were not theirs to take.

What legislation has been initiated during Mrs. Clinton’s 6+ years in office as the Junior Senator from New York? What, exactly, has she accomplished as a U.S. Senator that makes her think that she is qualified by anything other than her vast sense of entitlement for the Presidency? The only real qualification that Mrs. Clinton currently has is the fact that she is MORE qualified than her closest rival, Senator Barack Obama. And that’s not saying much.

We are in a time of great peril – a peril that Mrs. Clinton and her cohorts on the left wing of the Democratic Party refuse to acknowledge. That alone should be sufficient to disqualify her in the minds of the general population. But I very much suspect that the Teflon-coated Clintons will do far better than is healthy for this nation.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP THE PEOPLE OF GREENSBURG, KS

1) Heart to Heart International in Olathe.
Heart to Heart, 401 S. Clairborne, Suite 302, Olathe, KS 66062
Or visit www.hearttoheart.org.

2) Send donations to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund through your local chapter or to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013. Or visit www.redcross.org.
Groups wishing to donate items for Greensburg relief should contact the Pratt, Kan., Red Cross office at (620) 672-3651.

3) Send contributions to your local Salvation Army by marking them "Disaster Relief," visit www.salvationarmyusa.org or call 800-SAL-ARMY (800-725-2769).

I certainly understand that the people of Greensburg are the kind of people with whom I grew up in Twinsburg, Ohio - tough, resilient and utterly unafraid to deal with their own tragedy. But if nothing else, help from others of their countrymen can be a buoy for the heart - letting them know they aren't alone.

I've made my contribution - how about you?
HELL HAS DEFINITELY DEVELOPED A FROSTY ATMOSPHERE!

It must have because, for the third time in as many months, I completely agree with a column written by Susan Estrich! Unaccustomed as I am to this sensation, I think that her current column regarding a protest being lodged against a documentary by the splendid Ken Burns that is due to appear on PBS absolutely nails it!

As she puts it in this excellent column:

"The current controversy centers around Ken Burns' forthcoming film, "The War," which focuses on how the people of four American towns were affected by World War II. Famous historians everywhere have supported the project. Burns, who has created epic "poems" about everything from sports to the Civil War, seems poised once again to capture the country's imagination in a seven-part series.

Of course, I haven't seen it yet. But neither have the people protesting that PBS shouldn't support Burns or air his series because, from those four towns, none of the people who go to war are Hispanic.

I kid you not."
Granted Susan Estrich is considerably smarter than most of the netroots crowd, but when she is catching on to the insanity, could its end be far away?

SERVING SOLDIER IN NEED OF HELP FROM US

This story comes to us via Lonestar Pundit about a soldier who has having to deal with tragedy at home, all while he is protecting us by serving in Iraq. Read about this admirable young person and let's all do what we can to help.
And thanks.
THERE THEY GO AGAIN

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) has announced that she will take President George W. Bush to court if he issues a signing statement as a way of sidestepping a compromise Iraq war spending bill. Mind you, so far as I know, the bill HASN'T EVEN BEEN PUT TO A VOTE AS YET. But clearly, Mrs. Pelosi already knows that it will be unacceptable to the President. And if the silly twits know THAT, why don't they send the President a bill he CAN sign?

Mrs. Pelosi's apparent assumption is that the Senate will be complicit in whatever funding bill the House of Representatives passes, something that is by no means certain.

Mrs. Pelosi's further assumes that the President will not VETO an unacceptable spending bill once again. Unlike Mrs. Pelosi and her various enablers, Mr. Bush has been quite explicit about what he does and does not find acceptable in a funding bill. And unlike Mrs. Pelosi and her fellow travelers, he's pretty straightforward in his reactions to the unacceptable.

Finally, what is it with these Democrats? Aside from the fact that once again they are crying before they've even been "hurt" - here they go again - planning to go to the courts for that which they cannot get in the proper way! Which is strategy of doubtful efficacy.

First, a Federal court would have to grant Mrs. Pelosi and the House of Representatives "standing" and that is by no means certain. Then, in the unlikely event that "standing" was granted, they would have to show "injury in fact" - again, a difficult proposition.

Lawmakers have attempted unsuccessfully in the past to sue Presidents, but courts have rejected such suits.

Mrs. Pelosi, you dimwitted incompetent - just give the President a clean (pork free/non-deadline imposing) funding bill and he'll sign the damned thing. Doing anything else is just playing stupid games - with the lives of our military personnel. Do you honestly think that the American people are not already well aware of your nonsense?

Seditious morons!

NAVY GUY IS HEADING HOME!

Just wanted to share that our family’s beloved “Navy guy” is heading home from service off the coast of Iraq and we couldn’t be more pleased and proud. He may have to go back, but for now he is steaming from Perth, Australia en route to Hawaii and thence to San Diego. His mother will be waiting on the dock, accompanied by her beloved daughter-in-law, when he arrives.

Clinton announces effort to revoke president's war powers
Seeks to force debate with assistance from West Virginia's Byrd
By Kathy Kiely, USA TODAY

WASHINGTON — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton announced Thursday that she's joining forces with one of the Senate's most skilled parliamentary infighters to try to rescind President Bush's authority to wage war.

Clinton, a New York Democrat seeking her party's presidential nomination, and Sen. Robert Byrd, a West Virginia Democrat who is the Senate's longest-serving member, said they will seek a vote to rescind the authority Congress granted Bush to use force in Iraq in October 2002. If approved, the measure would require congressional reauthorization for troops to remain in Iraq, Clinton said.

Some gal our Senator Clinton! She ought to be indicted for treason and frog-marched out of the Senate in handcuffs with that senile old goat Byrd right behind her, similarly arrayed! She’s only doing this to ingratiate herself with the leftwingnuts in a naked grab for personal political currency! What the hell, who cares if our country ends up under sharia law as long as Hillary Rodham Clinton gets what SHE wants! She is a despicable amoral crone!

(And if you think I'm CRANKY now, you should have read this BEFORE I toned it down!)

These are the kind of people to whom Senators Clinton and Byrd think we should abandon the Iraqui people.

"ROSARY JOE" BIDEN

Senator Joseph R. Biden, Jr. (D-De) is a man of many words (many, many, many words). Such is the great torrent of words emanating from Senator Biden’s mouth, that it becomes somewhat daunting to listen closely enough, often enough, to realize that the man is spouting nonsense and stupidities 99.9% of the time.

Just a few of the recent crop of moronic locutions:

On May 1st it was reported that Senator Biden issued a statement accusing President Bush of “practicing the politics of division” when he vetoed the Supplemental Funding Bill. I have a message for Senator Biden: it was NOT President Bush who tried to usurp the powers of the Legislative branch of government. It was however your gang of self-important, pontificating seditionists who have consistently attempted to usurp the powers of the Executive since the 11/06 election! In addition, President Bush was quite honest, right along, about that Supplemental Funding Bill, when he said from the very start that he WOULD veto it if it contained any kind of withdrawal deadlines or “pork barrel” spending riders – and it did, and he did. Did you expect that you could blackmail the President of the United States into signing a BAD law into effect? Or do you and your fellow cowards of the left consider it divisive when the President of the United States insists on retaining his prerogatives as Commander in Chief?

I understand you’ve pretensions of the Presidency in your future, Senator. Trust me when I tell you, no hope in hell, thanks to comments like this one: At the World Affairs Council on May 2nd, you opined that “the Democratic Party has become too timid” – which leads one to ponder what is the name of the planet on which you reside, Senator? The Democratic Party in America is comprised primarily of cynical and self-serving bullies who have done everything in their power to hand a victory to the jidhadist scum that our military has denied them for 4 years.

In another burst of verbal posturing, you’ve also been reported as saying that the Dems in Congress are going to “shove Bush’s veto down his throat” which indicates to me a distinctly disrespectful attitude toward the office of the presidency you so hunger to inhabit, an inability to COUNT since any 2nd grader knows the Dems don’t have ENOUGH votes to override a veto, and the petulance of a toddler whose binky has disappeared! You consider THIS to be presidential?

Finally, since you make great pains to let everyone who is willing (or unwilling) to listen that you are a devout Catholic, Senator, apparently overlooking the fact that you are PRO-CHOICE and that your position is in direct contradiction to the position of the Catholic Church on the subject of abortion and stem cell research. Convenient lapse in memory, sir? Or are you just a moron?

Either way, YOU, Senator Joseph Biden, are unfit to serve as a Senator from Delaware, and certainly you are completely unqualified for the Presidency. And the sooner you realize it, the sooner you will quit contributing to ear pollution and global warming from all the hot air you spew. Have you never had an unexpressed thought?!

WORTHWHILE NEW SITE

Recently, the excellent Patrick Ruffini has written about the need to use new online strategies to mobilize against the Democrat-controlled Congress. Today, he has launched WeWinTheyLose.com, a place where conservatives can sign up to keep the pressure on elected officials to stand by our troops and stand for victory in Iraq. This effort is named for Ronald Reagan's simple recipe for defeating Soviet tyranny: "We win, they lose."

The first order of business is a petition against the Democrats' shameless surrender shenanigans. Please sign the petition here: http://wewintheylose.com/?s=email

Might I suggest to Patrick that the NEXT order of business ought to be the Dems' efforts to restore the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" in their attempt to accomplish the destruction of such high profile radio broadcasters as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, our own Andrea Shea-King and others. Their pathetic "Air America" venture certainly couldn't compete in a free market, so the solution is clearly a totalitarian move to restrict the ability of conservative talk radio to survive.

Do they ever think about what it says about them that they cannot compete on a level playing field but must, instead, tilt the field strongly in their favor to even break even?

SINS OF OMISSION? OR PATENTLY OBVIOUS
PARTISAN HACKS AT WORK?

On May 1, 2007 there were two completely related stories appearing on the Internet. Neither story made it on to ANY mainstream media outlet.

Ed Lasky writes ". . .that Senator Frist was hounded by charges that he had engaged in insider trading when he sold shares of the company his family founded, Hospital Corporation of America. Media outlets slandered him with an abandon last seen, well... every day when it comes to people associated with the Bush Administration. But regardless, the charges were trumpeted up by liberal interest groups and a more than willing media." Go here to read more about it.

And in the meantime, Clarice Feldman is writing that the enormous conflict of interest of Senator Dianne Feinstein is similarly being ignored, again by a complicit media who will protect all Democrats until they are forced into not protecting them by an enormous public outcry. In this case, the ethical and conflict problems arise from Senator Feinstein’s subcommittee activities from 2001 to late 2005. Go here to read the complete story.

After reading these two stories, remember the bogus charges filed against Tom DeLay for violation of a law that didn’t even exist, which the prosecutor seems to be reluctant to bring to trial? The charges were filed several years ago, Tom DeLay has resigned from Congress but first, because the Republicans have a "caucus" rule that an indicted Committee Chairman must step down, when Tom DeLay was indicted, that's precisely what he did, even though he knew the charges were completely frivolous and politically motivated. Could it be that Tom DeLay is being “Nifonged”? The Democratic caucus does NOT have the same rule - just FYI.

Questions, I have questions. I have LOTS AND LOTS of questions. One thing I do know - this nonsense has to stop. If one caucus has a good rule (and the one the Republicans have IS a good rule), then both should adopt it. For all that Nancy Pelosi prattles on about the culture of corruption, the antics of herself and her own party's miscreants leaves her no room to open her mouth. From Rep. Pelosi's own questionable doings, to Harry Reid's land deals, to Rep. Jefferson's "cold cash", and so forth - ALL members of Congress ought to be observing the biblical admonition "Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone." Truly. Now.

UPDATE: In an article today, Investor's Business Daily takes on this same situation.

THE ANCHORESS – AN APPRECIATION

Sometimes you discover a new friend when you are at one of the lowest points in your life and certainly that was the case when I discovered the blog called “The Anchoress”. My best friend’s 20 year old son had just died of a massive drug overdose (6 or 7 different illegal drugs in his system) and the grief was, to say the least, nearly overwhelming. And then I stumbled upon The Anchoress.

From the first encounter, this site has provided me with solace, pleasure, new ways to spend money (on recordings by the magnificent Bryn Terfel and the books she recommends) and the sheer joy of reading work from a first-rate mind delivered by a quality of writing that can only be described as magnificent. We have some things in common, The Anchoress and I. Our faith. Our love of good music. Our appreciation for cats. Problematic childhoods, although heaven knows mind was idyllic in comparison to hers.

From the excellent Pope Benedict (lover of cats and Mozart), to Bryn Terfel and on to discussions of some of the most reprehensible politicians in kinder terms than they deserve, The Anchoress never fails to enrich my day. If you haven’t discovered her yet, click on the link over on the left and go visit this fabulous gift to the blogsphere. She is easy (and worthwhile) to love, our Anchoress, I promise you.

THIS PROTEST OUGHT TO CREATE AN ENORMOUS BACKLASH!

Immigration Protests Begin Across U.S. to Spur Congress to Pass Reform Bill

LOS ANGELES — Fox News
With millions of illegal immigrants taking to the nation's streets Tuesday to demand a path to citizenship, Los Angeles and other major cities are bracing for rally gridlock.

Demonstrators hope the marches will push Congress to answer their calls for action for an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants currently living in the United States before the presidential primary season.
Nothing is more sure to make legal American citizens furious than the sight of people who BROKE THE LAW to come here, BROKE THE LAW to get identification papers, driver’s licenses, jobs and housing, BROKE THE LAW to get free medical care that AMERICAN CITIZENS cannot afford while stretching funds for indigent medical care past the breaking point, not to mention the criminals who have surreptitiously entered our country and then committed outrageous crimes against AMERICAN CITIZENS, marching through the streets DEMANDING that we reward their breaking of our nation's laws with PRIVILEGE.

If you are looking for the definition of the Yiddish word "chutzpah" - this is it!

RANDOM THOUGHTS

  • Hugo Chavez, Venezuelan Castro Wannabe, is nationalizing the oil industry there, as we speak. Of course, the oil fields produce a type of crude oil that requires special equipment and expertise to refine. Chavez has neither the infrastructure nor the personnel to accomplish this. Perhaps we should institute a "Shoot Yourself in Your Own Foot" award for dictators?

  • The Group of 88 STILL believes that they did nothing wrong in their premature lynching of Collin Finnerty, Reade Seligmann and David Evans - who, it turns out, were absolutely INNOCENT because NOTHING HAPPENED. These cretins almost make Cindy Sheehan look sane!

  • George Tenet is running around milking another 15 minutes of fame. Those who have already read (and analyzed) his new book express serious doubts about his veracity! NOTE Christopher Hitchens references it as: A Loser's History - George Tenet's sniveling, self-justifying new book is a disgrace. But Hitchens - what do you REALLY think?

  • Tony Snow is back. YAY!
