I will grant you that I am a cradle Republican - being blessed with two ultra intelligent parents who did not teach me ideology but rather imparted to me a great deal of common sense. Granted we moved in right-leaning circles of friends, but my mother's entire family were left-wing Democrats (in fact I suspect that my Uncle John, a naive man who was easily duped, was actually a Communist, may he rest in peace).
My reasoning is that even though it is considered more "cool" to be a Democrat - especially by other Democrats, being a Republican is the harder choice which requires one to be observant, engaged and intelligent about the state of the world and to possess a certain degree of courage. It's not easy to admit to being a Republican and be the focus of the automatic scorn doled out by those tolerant Democrats. But I believe in the things that being a Republican stands for. Being a Republican means being willing to make the hard choices and to actually stand for something real. And as a Catholic conservative, I loathe and despise the idea of abortion. To me it is just the refuge of the terminally slutty!
I don't believe that a person can get something for nothing. There is no free lunch. Hard work is the only way to make your way in this world - unless you were fortunate enough to be born with a silver tea service in your mouth (awkward, that), in which case I do follow the dictum that "for those to whom much has been given, much is expected" in other words, don't sit on your big fat trust fund and do nothing - use your leisure and access to make a positive difference in the world. But I digress.
I was raised in a household populated by voracious readers. And nothing was held back from me in terms of whatever was on my parents' bookshelves (although my mother had a big problem with me reading "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" when I was just 4 years old). Whatever I read, I could discuss with my parents. I could ask them anything and, if they weren't sure of the answer, they would say so - and then go look it up. I was never patted on the head and told to just run along and play with my dolls - not a pasttime that interested me particularly. I had the great outdoors, my animals (including a skunk named "Flower" and a cocker spaniel named "Freckles" as well as a roly poly terrier named "Bouncer" - I was not the most original child on this planet), plus my pet rooster who lived in the apple tree outside my bedroom window. His name was Oscar Pepper and where I got that I'm sure I cannot tell you. My father was totally opposed to Grimm's Fairy Tales thinking them way too violent and so, I got the Bible for bedtime stories (mom put the kibosh on "Songs of Solomon" however) and Shakespeare and Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. I also was exposed to H.L. Mencken and to my parents' love of clever sarcastic quips. In my childhood home, you had to be quick-witted to survive! When asked a serious question, one had best come up with a serious, well-thought-out response. It was not uncommon for my parents to ask me, quite seriously, exactly what line of thought had led to whatever damnfool thing I did just like every normal kid! Consequently, as I grew into a young woman, my automatic impulses led me to a conservative point of view. I had been raised to believe that every action of every person, or governmental entity, had consequences. I grew up believing that the less government pokes its incompetent head into the affairs of the citizenry, the better off we'd all be. Like George Washington, I grew to believe that the Least amount of government was the best amount of government.
With apologies to Pat Curley, I do not believe that President Obama occupies the Oval Office legitimately, but there isn't thing one we can do about it except deal with it like adults. In fact, I think that's the biggest different between Dems and Republicans - we're the grown-ups, they are the fractious, tantrum throwing children! I'm 67 year old - way too old to be throwing a tantrum - and with my blood pressure problems, risking my health! Besides, I could never belong to a political party that honors Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid! I'm incapable of that level of cynicism!

New York, New York – April 29th, 2009 - The National Leadership Team of the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition (http://www.nationwideteapartycoalition.com) today accepted President Obama`s invitation "to have a serious conversation about how we are going to cut our health care costs down over the long term, how we are going to stabilize Social Security.”
The invitation was extended by the President at a Town Hall Meeting held in Arnold, Missouri today (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0409/21870.html). Michael Patrick Leahy, a member of the National Leadership Team of the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition, said " We want to broaden the scope to address the President`s runaway march to socialist-statism, and the rampant across the board irresponsible spending he is promoting with his $787 Billion Stimulus Plan and his $1 Trillion Annual Deficit, his takeover of General Motors, Chrysler and the
How did we get to this point? I have more respect for Ben Nelson and Joe Lieberman who both quietly maintain their party affiliation, no matter how faithless that political party has been to them. Joe Lieberman may vote more frequently with the Republicans than he does with his Democratic brothers, but he remains steadfastly a Democrat.
At the time of our nation's founding, the position of U.S. Representative and U.S. Senator was never envisioned as a career choice. Come to think of it, on career day when I was growing up, nobody in my very diverse elementary school class stood up and opined that they were entranced with the idea of amassing power and a following which would then lead to them making a career as a United States Senator - or other variety of politician. H.L. Mencken once opined that "A professional politician is a professionally dishonest man!" Mencken was right far too often!

"I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans," Specter said in a statement posted on a Web site devoted to Pennsylvania politics and confirmed by his office. Several Senate officials said a formal announcement was expected at mid-afternoon.
For those of us who have been paying [horrified] attention, we have seen a spending spree that will cripple our nation far into the future encouraged and enabled by an immature incompetent who honestly believes in the left wing's entitlement social construct to the depths of his alleged soul.
In point of fact, it is those of us who possess a clear-eyed view of the current administration and its arrogant disregard of American traditions and cultural mores who will be the first to feel the wrath of The Won! Bloggers who blow the whistle on some of the stupider ideas emanating from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue - whose idea was that "fly by" in NYC yesterday? Whoever came up with it was pushing a singularly stupid and insensitive point of view! Madame Pelosi having the brass balls to DENY that she had ever been read any of the memoranda wherein the Waterboarding techniques were examined and discussed for the edification of the Congressional class! I knew she was insane AND retarded - she's a stone liar as well! All that Botox I guess!
Unlike some others amongst the conservative class, I deepyly hope and pray, to the depths of my soul, that President Obama will be the most successful president we have had since the late, lamented Ronald W. Reagan! My prayers and hopes are that he will equal the many good things done by George W. Bush and that he never ever descends into senility and rancor as has the President he currently resembles - James Earl Carter, Jr., the undisputed worst president of the 20th Century against some really stiff competition! To win a contest where Warren G. Harding is one of the candidates for the crown is real talent!
FINALLY: who was on the freaking airplane? The President? Campaign contributors? If it was still GWB's watch, the press would be falling all over itself to uncover the information. It seems like they're just sitting back calmly swallowing what bilgewater is being shunted their way!

It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood!
Maryland Rep. Donna Edwards and Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison were both arrested in front of the Darfur Embassy where they were protesting and where they cross a police line. A friend of mine, said "don't blame me for Ellison, I voted for the other guy"! Later, after the silliness at the Embassy of Darfur, some frootloop with a gun jumped the fence in front of the Census Bureau! Never a dull moment.
It's hot outside and it has brought forth the deeply insane people.

ANOTHER WEEKEND LOOMS
It occurs to me that I have been very very angry of late on this blog. And of course, the reason is my fear over my health situation. In reality, the time to be fearful was when I didn’t know what was causing me to feel so dreadful. Now I know the reason and I know what can be done about it. It’s just a matter of time! And patience.
So here we go – letting go of anger. President Obama, I think you are a horse’s derriere, but I forgive you. You can’t help being a bozo, you were born that way. I will pray for you in the hopes that with God’s help you won’t totally destroy this nation.
Sean Penn – I think God gave you amazing talent in exchange for a face that resembles a ferret’s nether region. (Don’t mean to insult ferrets). Why in hell are you so angry? You are apparently such a stud that two beautiful women have chosen to marry you!
Meghan McCain – you liked your 15 minutes of fame during your father’s presidential campaign. It’s over. Admit what is the truth – you are an intellectually limited, essentially frivolous human being who makes no contributions of substance to this world. Your vapid opinions are, like yourself, shallow and unimportant and it’s time for you to go away!
Bill O’Reilly – you are a pompous bloviating blowhard who adopts the latest sycophantic “meme” in order to feed your pathetic self-image. Try to understand that you aren’t the smartest man in
Hillary Clinton and Janet Napolitano. Now there is a meeting of two great minds! Just the sight of either one of them makes me reach for the gin! But I’m not going to worry about it. No more high blood pressure for me.
Keith Olbermann – never has one man received so much money for displaying so little talent and ability! Unless it’s Chris Matthews – he of the tingling leg! Now these two overpaid readers are demanding respect? I don’t know.
THE OVAL OFFICE!
President "I Won" is planning to release 7 of the detainees from Gitmo on U.S. soil. I realize that he feels he has no need to observe U.S. law, not being a native born citizen or legally occupying that office and all, but here's the deal you girly-man son-of-a-bitch, the release of these terrorists will not only endanger American citizens on our own soil but is against U.S. Law. U.S. law (8 U.S.C. 12 § 1182) which plainly states that any alien who had engaged in various forms of terrorist activity or training cannot be permitted into the United States. I realize you aren't nearly as smart as you think you are, nor are you as smart as your mindless robotic admirers think you are! In fact, I realize that you aren't as smart as my cat Sam. But surely even someone as dim as you can see what a complete fiasco releasing those fanatical would-be killers onto our soil would be?

First our nation was embarrassed by the hulking failure named Janet Reno and now the equally gargantuan dimwit Janet Napolitano is running her ignorant and moronic mouth! First she accuses people who do not support the extreme leftwing ideology of the Administration as potential "terrorists" and then she insults the entire nation of Canada!
In an interview broadcast Monday on the CBC, Ms. Napolitano attempted to justify her call for stricter border security on the premise that "suspected or known terrorists" have entered the U. S. across the Canadian border, including the perpetrators of the 9/11 attack.
All the 9/11 terrorists, of course, entered the
ROT YOUR BRAIN!
From the Associated Press:
“Former prime minister Ehud Olmert and opposition leader Tzipi Livni may face war crimes charges in Norway over their role in Israel's offensive against Hamas in Gaza, AFP reported Tuesday.
The news agency said six Norwegian lawyers announced plans Tuesday to accuse the pair, as well as Defense Minister Ehud Barak and seven senior Israel Defense Forces officers, of the crimes.”
Of course, nothing is being done to curtail the provocative behavior of those lunatic so-called Palestinian clowns nor is their behavior being condemned in any way, shape or form. The so-called civilians that Olmert and Livni are accused of “killing” are the same civilians behind which the cowards of Hamas hid themselves whilst bombarding innocent Israeli children and women.
How DARE these sanctimonious ignorant assholes file suit against the leaders of another sovereign nation on these grounds? We’re becoming entirely too much in each other’s business. We need to start knocking it off!

Let's all watch in fascination as the Retarded Woman who is speaker of the House and the Walking Cadaver who is in charge over in the Senate struggle with the Constitution whose dictates they normally eschew!
Self-proclaimed Queen of All Media (and in my opinion, only a mediocre writer), Perez Hilton was, for some bewildering reason a judge at the Miss U.S.A. pageant. And in his capacity as a judge, he asked of Miss
Mr. Hilton is a textbook example of intolerance run amok. He is prone to outrageous calumnies against those he does not like on his website and nobody ever calls him on it. Apparently, people are afraid of his wrath. Why? He’s just one individual. He labels people he has never met “douchebags” or “slutty” and judges the behavior of many other people. Most Americans do not believe in gay marriage, Mr. Hilton. It isn’t that we are haters, we just don’t believe in gay marriage on religious grounds. And this is

Hospitals are places that operate on their own imperatives. For example, a preliminary sleep study was being performed on me Wednesday night. There was a big, honking sign on my door that said, quite clearly "Sleep study in progress. Do not awaken this patient!" which in no way deterred a tech from entering my room, awakening me, removing my telemetry connection and wanting to draw additional blood! I told her that I didn't trust someone who clearly couldn't read to perform that task! She was most offended.
Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia is a very lovely hospital, if you have to be in a hospital. The staff is friendly and pleasant. They have room service! Breakfast is available 24/7 - just like Denny's! Their chicken caesar salad is exceptional! They are warm and caring. They do really like to wake people from restful slumber for their little tests and vampire behavior. They honestly do seem to give a rat's eardrum about how their patients are feeling.
I don't ever want to go back there! Despite the kindness shown. I missed my cat!

The people of Arizona were apparently quite relieved to get rid of the leftist nutcase who was their governor. Why did the entire nation have to take her off their hands!?

On this Good Friday keep Capt. Richard Phillips in your prayers. The US Navy is on a collision course with the pirates who are holding him. Pray for his safe return AND heaven only knows our President lacks the "cojones" to rescue him properly!
H/t Third Wave Dave Logan - a fine fellow at the best and worst of times!
UPDATE: You guys pray good! Thanks to the U.S. Navy snipers and the grace of God, Capt. Richard Phillips has been freed from his captors. Don't tread on the U.S.A. you scurvy bastards!

Bishops’ statements on Notre Dame’s invitation to Barack Obama:
- Bishop John D’Arcy, Fort Wayne-South Bend
- Cardinal Francis George, Chicago
- Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, Galveston-Houston
- Archbishop Timothy Dolan, Milwaukee
- Archbishop John Nienstedt, St. Paul-Minneapolis
- Archbishop Eusebius Beltran, Oklahoma City
- Bishop Edward Slattery, Tulsa
- Archbishop John Myers, Newark
- Archbishop Alfred Hughs, New Orleans
- Bishop Joseph Martino and Auxiliary Bishop John Dougherty, Scranton
- Bishop Thomas Doran, Rockford, Ill.
- Bishop Thomas Olmsted, Phoenix
- Bishop Gregory Aymond, Austin
- Bishop Robert Lynch, St. Petersburg
- Bishop R. Walker Nickless, Sioux City
- (Paul Schenck, on behalf of) Bishop Kevin Rhoades, Harrisburg, Pa.
- Bishop William Lori, Bridgeport, Conn. UPDATED
- Bishop George Murry, S.J., Youngstown, Ohio UPDATED
These high ranking Bishops are making clear statements concerning the disconcerting invitation of The Won to Notre Dame for the award of an honorary degree to the baby-murderer in chief of this nation, our President Barack Hussein Obama. Despite the clear teaching of the Catholic Church on the subject of "giving scandal to the faithful" - which this invitation certainly does - or honoring you faith properly which this invitation does not.
The President actively promotes and supports two initiatives that are anathema to Catholics: embryonic stem cell reasearch and abortion on demand. What part of stupid mental disconnect on the part of whoever at Notre Dame issued and approved this inviation? Isn't an apology to all Catholics appropriate!? and Soon?!
Over 259,140 signatures on the online petition at "Happy Catholic blog" so far. Go on over and make your voice heard if you agree that this is a travesty!
UPDATE: There are those who find the protests somehow not terribly Catholic in nature and who claim that Catholics should see this as an opportunity to teach our belief to the rest of the world. What rest of the world is that? The one that thinks it has the right to tell Catholics what their beliefs should be without invitation? The world that thinks it is okay to pacify and generally kiss the butts of Muslim lunatics who want to kill us because of our beliefs. Of generations of listening to various church leaders promulgate rules for Catholics, only to see those leaders allow prominent Catholics to bypass those rules, as when Jacqueline Kennedy married a divorced man in the Greek Orthodox Church which should count according to the Church's teachings as both adultery and sacrilege. But noooooooooooooo - Jackie O. was the Queen of Camelot and above reproach in the Church's eyes. This is called a big fat honking double standard and it ticks me off something fierce. John Kerry never satisfactorily explained that he had been annulled in the Church before remarrying his sugar mama - TuhRaza!! Ted Kennedy drove Joan to drink and then divorced her; remarrying supposedly in the Church with no admonishment from church leaders. Now, finally, the Church is drawing the line in the sand! It's long overdue and it doesn't surprise me that other faiths don't have much respect for the Catholic Church.
Anyone who knows me at all will be shocked when I say that I am thoroughly in Michigan's corner to win the basketball championship! Why not? The State of Michigan desperately needs an uplifting event and heaven knows the Ohio State Buckeyes have consistently denied the Wolverines any kind of sporting joy over the past five-six years!
Please go to Babalu blog where Cigar Mike is predicting that he will be arrested for sedition based on his excellent column! Actually, this should be a must-see stop every day for its illuminating and clear-headed writing about The Usurper (aka Satan's spawn) and his minions. Cuban exiles know totalitarian excess when they see it, having lived it!
I'm watching as our Rahm Emanuel-governed nation (what - you didn't think that stammering jugeared, infantile p.o.s. knows enough to run anything? He is barely voting "present" these days!) is hurtling headlong into a destruction of our Bill of Rights and Constitution. As we move into what I consider the holiest weekend of the year (both Passover and Easter coming together this year), it occurs to me that it is important for those of us who have studied history and who have come to some reasoned and supported conclusions about what's happening to us as a nation. We've become lazy - and complacent. My late father, a very SMART man, used to say that the problem with America is that she hasn't had to fight an adversary on her own soil for many years. What will happen when we are forced into a war with our own Federal government for the rights guaranteed us in a disregarded Constitution? It won't be brother against brother. It will be Right-thinking Christian against godless Communism all over again. On our own soil.
It is important that we bear in mind the REASON for Easter - the miraculous resurrection of a martyred Savior. Passover commemorates another example of God's grace - the sparing of the children of the Jews from the retribution being visited upon the Pharoah for his enslavement of God's people. We must trust in God but stockpile canned goods and drinking water. Keeping my own life necessities in mind, I have acquired a manual can opener, coffee grinder and a Corning Ware coffee percolator so that I can observe with my dearly loved coffee in hand, as we wrest back our beautiful nation from the hands of the Satanically inspired interlopers! Lay in a supply of Matzos and peanut butter (my own favorite snack combination), powdered CoffeeMate creamer and canned soups and stews.

UPDATE: This has been revealed to be an "April Fool's joke"
